frenando espinosa chauvin

From fashion models to drag queens, from the harsh landscapes and wildlife of the Galapagos to the architecture of New York City. Espinosa’s imagery
is characterized by his exceptional and innovative use of lighting techniques which reflect his unique artistic sensitivity to the world around him. His photographs are elegant, complex and refined.

Espinosa began his professional photography career in New York working as a fashion photographer for international modeling agencies such as Ford Models, Elite, IMG and Next. He has taught illumination techniques at photography workshops hosted by the International Center of Photography in New York and the gallery Pobre Diablo in Quito, Ecuador. His work has been exhibited in Australia, Korea, Qatar, Ecuador and New York. He has also published several books, including Afrodisiaco, Dubrovnik (a travelogue), Split (a travelogue) and Galapagos Surreal, And Appetite for the Senses.

Espinosa has used experimental infra-red photography techniques to capture hauntingly beautiful aerial cityscapes. Both deeply tender and darkly menacing, familiar and unreal these images capture a uniquely powerful and unsettling new dream of New York City.
